Society of 75

Until 2006, WBCNA operated on seed monies provided by local businesses and individuals such as Bobby Bradley, Remigius Shatas, Redstone Federal Credit Union, Sheila Brown, Sharon Morgan, Caroline Myers, Judith Smith, Arlene Stackhouse, Donna Lamb, and Nancy Archuletta. The WBCNA received a 5-year SBA grant in September 2006 for $150,000 per year. We are one of only 99 Women’s Business Centers around the country funded by the SBA.

The receipt of this grant means that the WBCNA will bring $750,000 new Federal dollars into Huntsville over the next 5 years. However, these monies are contingent upon the WBCNA’s ability to provide matching funds. The WBCNA will be required to provide $75,000 in non-Federal monies and $75,000 in in-kind contributions each year in order to receive the funding.

WBCNA launched a fundraiser in 2006 to ask local businesses and individuals to make contributions for matching purposes. The “Society of 75” was designed to ask 75 businesses and/or individuals to donate $1,000 per year for 5 years.

The following individuals or companies have joined the Society of 75 and provided or committed funds for 5 years:
